February 2012

I’m a huge fan of Facebook, so I wanted to test my skills and ask the cards about their upcoming IPO, the money matters associated with it can be challenging for the cards:

Given that aces sprang out of the deck in three very important positions, it seems that Facebook will be facing tons of new beginnings over the next year. Many to “like” ;-)

The cards like to focus on personal matters more than business ones, so when you try to read a business you typically have to follow the thread of the CEO or another figure to get a sense of a larger picture (see, corporations aren’t people, Mr. Romney).  For this reading let’s  focus on Mark Zuckerberg the founder of Facebook to get the full story.

The cards want to delve into his personal life, his feelings surrounding how he’s been depicted in the media and in the movies, the huge amount of uncertainty around his romantic life… and here you have to feel so sorry for the guy.  If he and his current girlfriend are indeed on the rocks, how will he avoid the pack of gold diggers waiting?

But again, we’re not reading him , let’s turn the focus to his company and the slow process of coming to the conclusion it was time to trade publicly (and his brilliant strategy to turn everyone away at the door until he got exactly what he was looking for.  This is how he will solve his romantic woes as well, he will wait until everything feels just perfect).  The slow decision process was followed at dizzying speed once the decision was made.  Like everyone was racing to get it all in place before he changed his mind.  Then,  I look at opening day, weeks and months out; the value remains very strong.  Everyone will be talking about the incredible fairy tale success the company has been met with so far.

It will be a true game changer, amazing, and then, like everything after it hits a peak, it sees a valley,  tries to avoid it, but falls into it anyway.  The media and people in general will gleefully report on this correction, that reversal of fortune, all the bad news no matter how small.  On an esoteric level the cards dig down into how our egos love to hear about the failures of others, our egos love bad news, competition and chopping down the tall poppies.  It’s our challenge not to heed naysayers, to hold on to faith in low times.

Facebook will recover from business, financial, and personal issues through hard work and the spirit of teamwork.  The lesson here, is that missteps are unavoidable, but keep on stepping… even when you are undervalued, overworked, and getting only the worst kinds of attention.  Like a lot of dreams born in dorm rooms, this one keeps recurring.

Facebook will have a great IPO, then a correction in a few months, see a lot of criticism, experience a lot of anxious changes, but victory is assured.  Now, follow your dreams!
