Philosophy
Reading tarot cards is something people have been doing for thousands of years (albeit, vilified for it more often than not).
I read a lot on the subject and discuss it often. Suffice it to say that none of us know precisely how it works. I’m partial to theories about oneness, collective unconscious, synchronicity, and vibrational energy, but, at the end of the day all we know for sure is that Tarot cards are a precursor to modern day playing cards, beyond that, their origins, and the source of their power usually gets contentious. I don’t like to argue. If a person believes there is something evil about the practice of fortune telling, I tell them to move on.
You don’t have to believe… but you have to be intellectually, spiritually, and generally curious and open-minded to try a Tarot reading.
Personally I’m Unitarian, which means that I don’t belong to any set belief system, I appreciate all, especially when the meanings of their teachings converge… be they Wiccan, Christian, Kabbalist, Hindu, Buddhist, etc. All are valid! When it comes to card reading I see myself as a humble medium for the Card’s message. But not a medium in the sense of all knowing and all seeing. I don’t get a glimpse of your person, I see a snapshot of your condition (past, present and future). People benefit from the process, gain relief, liberation, and insight. I don’t pretend to know why or how, but it’s often exciting and awe-inspiring to be a part of and witness to.
However, for newbies and first timers, I often have to level-set some expectations. The breed of your pet, the outfit you’re wearing, the color of your hair… no idea.
Solving crimes, picking great stocks, or supplying wining lottery numbers happens very rarely (If only we could do that with any accuracy fortune tellers could be millionaires)! Again, just be open minded.
Sometimes, the cards tell you what you already know but haven’t been willing to admit to yourself, or, they tell you things you couldn’t have known but can now fully understand in foresight or hindsight and can prepare for or guard against. Sometimes, they ignite a passion or compassion you didn’t know you had, other times, they’re a gentle cheerleader, a reminder that you’re on the right path even if it doesn’t feel like it. The cards always hold their own, steady and strong (even as we humans falter) it is an ongoing privilege to be able to seek their counsel and work their magic.
